Description
One of three sculptural benches created for Spuiplein in The Hague, using innovative free-form bending techniques
About
A sculptural bench for Spuiplein, The Hague, born from innovative free-form bending techniques.
Entirely designed and crafted in Marseille, the stainless-steel structure fuses advanced fabrication with a contemporary take on urban seating. Each bench in the series reflects and reinterprets a neighbouring building.
Model BMC echoes the adjacent OMA-designed Danstheater. Its dynamic silhouette unfolds like a sequence of body postures — a steel choreography capturing movement at rest
Process
The benches were built at our workshop in l’Estaque (2011–2016) by a small, dedicated team of three.
- Sabine Kruk led the construction and welding.
- Rémy Rivoire, a close friend, handled sorting, cleaning, sanding, and polishing.
- I oversaw the overall production and assembly — and, not least, cut each pipe by hand.
